DiRT 3 Benchmark Tool released
Hey, long time, no updates, I know... RadeonPro isn't updated for some months, but, besides some OpenGL quirks, I think it's pretty stable, isn't? :)

This time round I want to share with you a new benchmark tool I've developed with partnetship of a Brazilian games and techonology web site, the Adrenaline Racing Benchmark Tool that allows for benchmarking the Codemasters's games DiRT 3, DiRT 2 and F1 2010, all in an easy to use interface with lots of quality settings. It also packs an interesting feature: full integration with a web application called Adrenaline BenchZone that can receive the tool's benchmarks results, classifying all results based on settings used by the users. All published results can be shared, filtered and compared to other results, awarding with "medals" the best results sent by the overall result and also by video graphics card, meaning you can have lots of fun trying to win the top positions and the most gold medals you can!

I also want to thank AMD Brasil and HIS Brasil for supporting this initiative.

Are you ready to conquer the Adrenaline BenchZone? Let the competition begin!

New Crysis 2 Benchmark Tool released
Hey folks! I've just released a brand new benchmark tool for benchmarking Crysis 2, you can download it from here.

Some options are unavailable right now, but the main functionality is working.

Although it was only tested with EADM digital version with patches 1.1 and 1.2, I think it will work fine with Steam version as well. If it doesn't work, just let me know so I can try to fix it.

Enjoy!

Crysis 2 even better with new CAP + FEAR profile
A new CAP has been released, you can grab it here from our friends at Rage3D.

Uninstall any other CAP installed and install this new one, then create (or modify) a profile for Crysis2.exe, choosing F.E.A.R. as CrossfireX compatibility profile. Doing that will fix the flickering seem on Crossfire systems and will improve performance as well!

Give it a shot now!!

Crysis 2 flickering on CrossfireX systems
Crysis 2 is finally out! I remember I've pre-ordered the game on 05/12/2010 when the release date was set to September, and after almost a year later the game sees the day light... and without DirectX 11 support! Sad, but true.

But that isn't the only missing thing, the game also lacks multi-GPU support and flickers like hell until you disable CrossfireX. But you can still enjoy better performance of your CrossfireX setup without the screen flickering with the help of an old trick, you have 2 options:

1- If you own a retail Crysis 2 copy, just rename Crysis2.exe to Bioshock.exe in game directory.

2- If you bought Crysis 2 on Steam or Impulse and you're using Windows Vista or better, create a profile for the game using Crysis2.exe as profile executable and at Tweaks tab set Bioshock.exe as CrossfireX compatibility profile (see screenshot below for details)

Doing so CrossfireX performance gains won't be awesome but you will still have a small performance increase without the flickering issue.

Enjoy!

Are you playing Test Drive Unlimited 2?
I'm playing and loving it! If you don't own it and enjoyed TDU 1 I strongly recommend it, really nice MMO racing game! Buy it on Direct2Drive.com with 20% discount using this link (copy the discount code and paste it into Promotion code field at Checkout page)

If you have a CrossfireX system you may already noticed that current Catalyst lacks a proper CrossfireX profile for TDU 2. After doing some tests I found that using Bioshock CrossfireX profile and setting MVPUMode to Alternate Frame Rendering actually improved CrossfireX usage a bit.

A Guru3D user posted some screenshots comparing framerate, using RadeonPro he gained about 35% more performance. A bit shy result but better than nothing until AMD figure out a better way to scale multi-GPU on TDU2.

Enjoy!

Missing DLL from auto-update
For all users that auto-updated RP to new build 1.1.0.0 in the last few hours, please do the auto-update again to download the missing file. That should fix an error that is displayed when the Purge profiles toolbar button is pressed.

Long time, no updates...
Yeah, one whole month has been passed since last update, new build was scheduled to be released this week but unfortunately my development rig's mobo died last wednesday. I bought a replacement for it, but sadly it won't arrive until tuesday. The good news is that I also bought an HD 6950, so expect full support for Cayman starting at next release.

HD 6900 and EQAA support coming on next build
EQAA or Enhanced Quality Anti-Anliasing mode of HD 6900 series is going to be supported on next build. If I can find information about power modes (-20 to +20%) that will be added as well.

PS: Unfortunately I don't have an HD 6900 card to test, if someone at AMD is reading this, please send me a Cayman sample! :-P

EQAA: only for Cayman?
With HD 6900 series aka Cayman debut, AMD introduced a new Anti-Aliasing technique: EQAA, an acronym for Enhanced Quality Anti-Aliasing.

The screenshot above is from my HD 5970 and a bit of registry editing, although  it's very easy to have the option available, the sad news is EQAA seems to work only on Cayman equipped boards... that's due to dependencies on features found only on new Cayman's Render-back ends (aka ROPs), so it's not a software feature that could be implemented on drivers as most of us were expecting.

RadeonPro is going to support EQAA, but only for Cayman equipped boards.

Blog moved to Blogger
I've used to blog using Blogger and tried Wordpress this time, but the WP site is too slow and every customization is not free as it's on Blogger, even the simpliest ones like editing the template CSS... so I'm back to Blogger!

Wordpress may be a better blogging platform, but for my basic needs it seems Blogger fits better.
